Adapting to the Pandemic: Self-Assembly Craft Kits for Seniors in Quarantine

Updated: Jun 10, 2020

Our very purpose at T2SA is to bring joy to senior home residents through making arts and crafts... and up to this point, our routine was to make these crafts together. Needless to say, as soon as the news broke out that homes would be closing to visitors, we started brainstorming ways we could continue our presence without really being there.

Given our new reality of Covid-19, we wanted to find a way to bring the same creative experience without posing a risk to seniors. After some brainstorming, we came up with the idea of making Craft Kits, which you may be familiar with if you've been keeping up with our T2SA Instagram page (@t2sa_org). This way, residents will have all the materials and instructions that they need to get crafting on their own. Though we are a small organization and we cannot make a huge impact, we hope that these kits at the least can bring some more cheer to seniors who are isolated and perhaps feeling stressed during these times.

Our goal is to make these craft deliveries a regular occurence to as many North Shore senior homes as we can, and so far we are in touch with Revera Hollyburn House and Lynn Valley Care Centre.

So far, our routine has been:

1. Hold a (virtual) team meeting, assign roles

2. Contact Senior homes

3. Hold a team meeting, come up with craft ideas

4. Make and order instruction sheets (we have been creating ours using Canva)

5. Purchase materials

6. Sanitize!!

7. Prep materials

8. Sanitize again!!!

9. Put all prep and instruction sheets into craft bags

10. Send to homes

Here's some photos of a few of our crafts:

Stay tuned as we will be updating with more blog posts as we go, but be sure to tune into our Instagram page @t2sa_org as we are the most active there.
